Roll Train!

Today I went to a Roll Train class and oh my lord, it was so fun! I've always wanted to be one of those cool dancing roller skaters, but I can't roller skate. I've tried; I just can't do it. But I can roller blade! I asked the woman in charge a while back if I could still join, and she said yes. So I am their first roller blader, yay!

To my giant surprise, I was much better at it than I expected. I thought I was going to fall on my face, but I actually held my own and was able to keep up with the others. Both the owner and I thought roller blades were going to make many of the moves difficult or impossible, but it wasn't the case. The only thing that was a little bit of a struggle was the grapevine because my wheels get in the way. But heck, I seriously didn't expect to do as good as I did.

And now I'm really interested in getting better at rollerblading! I want to learn how to stop properly and jump things.

Listening to: Utada Hikaru - "One Last Kiss" Drinking: Sen cha from Fava Tea Mood: Mellow-ish. Waking up Working on: Adding Crew 11 to the ISS Wall interactive in Atlantis Reading: Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (audiobook). About to pick up Matilda by Roald Dahl.  Remember when Livejournal used to have the tags at the end where you could add what you were listening to and what your mood was? Mine had little blue kitty icons that went with your mood and were very cute. I miss them. I particularly remember the 'productive' one, where the cat hat glasses on and was tapping on a keyboard. There was also one where it was snoozing and had little 'zzz's above its head.  On a different note, I had never heard this song by Utada Hikaru before (well, apparently I had because I had already "liked" it on Pandora, but I don't remember it), but I really like it. I'm actually repeating it again. It gives old school Utada vibes but apparently came out ...

First January in Orlando

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. For some reason, Blogger (a totally dead platform at this point) gives me “Let’s Go Ride a Bike” vibes - in a good way. Which, by the way, I just Googled and they haven’t touched their blog since 2015. What a shame. I really miss the days of blogs.  Most of my writing has been done in a physical notebook, which in many ways I prefer; but in others, it doesn’t quite quench the thirst. One of the things I love about digital journaling is being able to add images and photos (like the one below). While physical journaling feels more intimate and perhaps, authentic in some ways, digital journaling feels more like a creating a story. Two different methods for two different outcomes.  So why the photo of a plant? Well, first, this is a Monstera plant. I’ve loved it’s lines and the holes in its leaves for years, but I never learned its name because it’s not a native plant to Wisconsin. They are to Florida, however, and are super easy to fin...

Cup grip handspring!

This video is terrible evidence, but I managed to get (and hold! Albeit briefly) my cup grip handspring earlier this week! I've been working on it for... I don't know, maybe 4 months? Before my shoulder injury. I was trying to incorporate it into my training so that I wouldn't have to only rely on twisted grip and because true grip really hurts my wrists (for the record, an article just came out saying how true grip is really bad on your wrists, which is where it hurts me). I found a YouTube video that showed getting into it from chest out, so that's how I've been training. I can't imagine trying to swing kick into it. I've been slowly feeling closer and closer to staying up, and on Monday I was finally able to do it! Seriously, it's amazing because I haven't been able to do any pole for the last 3 months due to my shoulder injury, so how did this happen?? I credit my physical therapist because she's been really working my ass off with som...
