Pole goals update #2

I was going through my old posts and saw one from when I first went back to pole dancing in December/January (has it been 6 months already? It doesn't feel like it at all) that had a list of pole goals on it. It was very small: #1 get a shoulder mount, and #2 invert better and elbow grip Ayesha. Mostly, just wanted to focus on getting strong without commitments.

But there have been other goals, not labeled as such, along the way in my other posts. I really had no idea how far I've come in 6 months; but a lot of that has to do with how bad I was when I started back. But regardless, I think it might be kind of fun to do a list of goals that I've met and start making new ones to knock off.

Previous goals that I have since met:
  • Regular invert (when I first came back)
  • Deadlift invert
  • Aerial invert
  • Chopper/Straddle invert (could use some fine tuning)
  • Regular shoulder mount
  • Deadlift shoulder mount
  • Flag with one leg bent
  • Flag with straight legs
  • Full skater
  • Jamilla mount
  • Superwoman
  • Reverse Superwoman
  • Superman from climb above (close to perfecting this)
  • Superman from extended butterfly to flatline
  • Superman from plank/inverted teddy (only did this once, but I couldn't believe I was able to)
  • Side climb
  • Straddle climb all the way to the top
  • Pull ups in general
  • Holding knees up to chest before invert
  • Splits! Both ways!
  • Cross-ankle layback (just got it today!)
  • Bow and arrow (see above note)
  • Twisted grip handspring (consistently that one night. Haven't tried it since)

Mind you, almost none of these were things I could do before.

New goals:
  • Twisted grip handspring (make it consistent)
  • True grip handspring (at least some progress)
  • Elbow + regular grip Ayesha (eek... seems ambitious)
  • Pencil (also ambitious)
  • Aerial shoulder mount
  • Shoulder mount into brass monkey
  • Cross knee layback (why can't I get this one anymore?)
  • Hands-only climb
  • Handstand/forearm stand
  • Cupid/Princess
  • Remi sit and layback
  • Russian layback
  • Cartwheel of any sort

Pole update 5 / Karate update 1

POLE This last weekend I took my first pole workshop with a traveling instructor. Even though I didn't find it overly helpful (or worth the money), I still consider it a milestone in my pole fitness journey. The instructor was Brynn Route, and we did a series of unconnected floor choreography sequences. I didn't find it very helpful because it wasn't applicable to anything else, and I really wanted to learn some actual pole tricks. If I'm paying $90 for a session, I want to get something out of it that I wouldn't from a regular class (or YouTube). One of the other girls, Jill, was struggling just as much as I was with a lot of the moves in the workshop (Brynn was super nice, but she only showed each complicated sequence twice without a breakdown before having us do it), which was fantastic in camaraderie. At the end of the workshop she turned to me and said, "you're so strong," which just made my life. I told her I didn't really know how to res...

January 19: Rennigers, Mt. Dora, and FARTS

Twice a year the big flea market in Mt. Dora does a really big version. The event (or location?) is called Rennigers. Today was the first day of it's first event (it's a 3-day event). Bryan invited me to go up with him, and we left around 9:45am. It was fun, even though it started raining again in the afternoon; and I bought a pair of earrings, elephant planter, and 9x9 baking pan for Oma's apple cake. This was a table I really liked at the market. If I had a wood shop, I could make it. The elephant planter, looking fabulous. It's the same one we had growing up! Then we went to Mt. Dora and got drinks at an upstairs cafe. He got a lavender latte, which he didn't like, and I got a lavender steamer, which was delicious. We wandered over to the park with the boardwalk and lighthouse. It's the smallest lighthouse I've ever seen. Not sure if it was ever functional, but it's on a "port" where boats dock, so maybe. We saw an anhinga eating a big fish ...

Purgatory

Disney purgatory.            Writing purgatory.                          Job purgatory.  I feel like I've finally climbed to the top of the treehouse. Now I'm standing on the highest deck, looking out above the trees at the horizon, waiting to see if I'm getting a room in the house... or stepping onto the rope elevator back to the ground. It feels so close to one of them. This week is going to take forever.  It's really a 50/50 feeling. Maybe they'll accept me... maybe they won't. I'll have gotten all the way to the very end, and then let go. Let loose back in the cold, hard world of unemployment. The other Disney job, Stacy's old CT one, is still in the air; but Amy's also in the running, and I doubt I can outperform her. Although I do have Stacy's gold-star recommendation behind me, so I'm not going to give up.  Hopefully, it doesn't go that far, though. Hopefu...
